George P. Yeonas

George Yeonas was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1976 and to the District of Columbia Bar in 1977. Mr. Yeonas received his B.A. in History from the University of Virginia in 1972 and his J.D. from The American University Washington College of Law in 1976. Mr. Yeonas’s practice is concentrated in the areas of real estate acquisition and financing; the development of commercial, retail, and residential real estate; and related business and commercial litigation.

Mr. Yeonas has recently acted as counsel for purchasers and sellers of commercial real estate transactions, including shopping centers, office buildings, commercial condominiums, and warehouse-flex space facilities. In addition, he has worked extensively in the area of commercial real estate financing and has directed transactions as counsel for commercial property owners involving real estate financing transactions in excess of $50,000,000.00. As counsel for numerous builders and developers of both residential and commercial properties, he has worked extensively to assist his clients in the acquisition of large parcels of real property for commercial, mixed use, and residential projects. He has worked for many years in the drafting and negotiation of complex contract documents that are required to enable buyers and sellers of real property to acquire, develop, and market their assets. This work has also involved the dedication, subdivision, and planning of property and the attendant relations with local and state government to obtain the necessary approvals and entitlements in order to allow large, complex development projects to be approved by governmental authorities under the clients’ development plans.

Mr. Yeonas also deals extensively in local government relations and subdivision matters as they relate to real estate development, in the formation and operation of business entities established to move development and business ventures forward and to accomplish the results his clients desire. Mr. Yeonas also represents landlords and tenants in commercial leasing matters, including shopping center and retail leases, as well as general commercial office projects. He has drafted, reviewed, and negotiated commercial leases and is able to advise clients as to all aspects of commercial leasing, including lease disputes, defaults, and the often-resulting litigation and actions necessary to resolve such lease disputes. Mr. Yeonas has extensive experience with general civil litigation matters; this experience informs his treatment of business and contract transactions, as well as the related disputes that may arise when such transactions do not achieve the intended goals of the parties. In order to represent clients effectively in real estate or business transactions, Mr. Yeonas believes that an attorney must understand the litigation process in order to identify critical issues and to advise clients as they move forward with their projects and businesses.

Mr. Yeonas is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia, the District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the District of Columbia Bar. Mr. Yeonas also speaks Greek, French, and Spanish.
